  • How long will it take me to learn korean?

    Date: 2012.05.10 | Category: Learn Korean | Response: 2

I’m learning korean through the internet and a have a book and stuff to learn with.
If i start now how long will it take me to at least understand enough of it to watch shows and listen to song?

To understand what a native person is speaking when they’re speaking directly at you…2-3 years (if you work hard and they don’t speak at the pace that they would with their native friends)

To understand TV shows and songs….maybe never. Sorry. At least 5-6 years of hard work at my estimates. There’s just those nuances that non-natives will probably never get unless you were exposed to it at a very early age.

  • how to write my name in Korean symbols?

    Date: 2012.05.08 | Category: Korean Symbols | Response: 2

I really want to know what is the Korean symbol of my name, Lee Soo Rim.
please help me, I searched in the internet, but i didn’t found any of them.

    Thank you so much!

    GOD bless you!

Lee is the Romanised version of 이, not 리

    It’s 이수림.

Btw, if you’re a Korean descendant, why on earth don’t you know how to at least read and write in Korean?!

  • I wanted to know what these korean words mean?

    Date: 2012.05.06 | Category: Korean Words | Response: 2

I was wondering if someone could provide me with the translation for the korean words:
Dai and Hyun, and whether Daihyun means something different.

Dai (by the Revised Romanization standard, written as dae) is 대 in Hangeul and can mean several different things depending on the Hanja (Chinese character) from which it is derived, including big, great; oppose, opposite; wait (for), treat; substitute, generation; belt; tower, terrace; lend, borrow; and army…(whew!).

Hyun (in Revised Romanization, written as hyeon) is 현 and, as far as I know, means "appear, now, or current" (現).

Were you thinking of Hyundai, the car company, instead of Daihyun? Because I don’t think Daihyun (or Daehyeon) is a word. Hyundai means "modern times" or "the present age," from Hanja 現代. In this case, translated literally, hyun means "now" and dai means "generation." Hope that helped!
